Work Journal 4 is due on 3/30 and 3/31
Spring Break is 4/6-4/10
This Week in Core 4:
We are working very hard to be ready for Exhibition! Students will present their Humanities posters simultaneously with their science presentation in Rita's space. They are only responsible for one presentation-if more happen, great. If not, that's ok. We want students to have the opportunity to see other spaces as well :) During their presentation, they will be responsible for talking about the big ideas of their Ancient Civilization, then talking about the modern religions in the region of their Ancient Civilization, and connecting all of this to the idea of religious persecution, becoming a refugee, and our intention of donating our soap to local refugees. Conversations at home are helpful, and we will continue practicing on M/T :) It's also helpful to have a conversation with your students about what to do when we don't know something...(it's ok to say "i don't know!" and share how they might find out later in the week. We are learners, not experts!).
Also, please continue to have conversations at home with our students about cleaning up our community space, taking care of materials, and generally being responsible...I have noticed quite a bit of misuse regarding our materials in class, as well as misusing the freedom of using the restroom when they need to, by leaving the classroom and going other places on campus other than to the restroom and back...this is turning into a safety issue, and I've talked to students about it in class :) Thank you! I look forward to seeing you at Exhibition!
This Week in Core 5:
We are working very hard to be ready for Exhibition! Students will engage in their debate at their designated times (see previous e-mail from me), in my space. While students are presenting, we are asking that you participate as an active listener, and complete a debate rubric. Debates should last approximately 20 minutes. I look forward to seeing you at Exhibition!
Also, we have been engaging in discussions around the lasting effects of the Reconstruction era at the beginning of each class...ask your students about the "inequal opportunity race" video!
Finally, please continue to have conversations at home with your students about appropriate language for school. While I understand that older students tend to try on more adult language in their teens, they need to be conscious of what little ears might be hearing, and that some choices of words (and actions!) can be offensive to others. We want to make sure that our community feels safe for everyone involved! Thank You :)
