Twice per semester, students will read a novel (one from the book club list, and one of their choice), and present on what they've read in class to a small group of peers. While I am requesting evidence of work on two novels per semester, I recommend that students read at least 4 as part of their at-home studies. They should be reading every day! Students must write a summary of what they've read, AND must also create a product that highlights the theme(s) of their chosen novel. For product ideas, please see the button above that says "ideas".
For their book club presentation, students should be prepared to speak about 3 things:
-a short summary of the novel (2 min)
-an analysis of the theme(s) of the novel (2-3 min)
-What was the author really trying to get the reader to think about deeply?
-Was there a moral dilemma or lesson evident in the story?
-What kind of theme(s) were evident? (man vs man, man vs. nature, man vs. himself, or man vs. society)
-An explanation of their product as it relates to themes discussed above (2 min)
While these are in-class, informal presentations, it is imperative that students come prepared. All Book Club work done at home can (and should!) count towards work journal samples.
*All Book Club Due Dates can be found on the calendar on my DP.
*All Book Club choice submissions should be entered on the latest blog post under each core’s Book Club tab on my DP
